Latrobe Valley Microgrid – AEF | Australian Energy Foundation

Latrobe Valley Microgrid

In partnership with Ovida and Allume Energy we were successfully awarded grant funding for the $15.5 million project, Solar Partnering Around Regional Communities (SPARC) which will deliver 7.5MW of solar PV and 1.5MWh of battery storage across up to 75 microgrid sites across the Latrobe Valley.

AEF developed and implemented a community engagement model targeting 750 small to medium sized businesses who either cannot afford the upfront costs of solar, or are tenants and don’t own their rooftops.
The model sees us educating, guiding and supporting local businesses through the process to join the microgrid.

Those businesses who join the microgrid, will see their energy bills cut by up to 25 per cent. In addition 90 local jobs will be created in the renewable energy sector, a vital shift in an area dominated by coal power.more attractive dwelling for future tenants.

“This microgrid program will ensure the Latrobe Valley is at the centre of the shift to renewable energy and lower emissions.”
Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio
