Reflections on 2021 and end of year holiday period

First, to note, AEF will be closed Friday 24 December 2021, reopening on Monday 10 January 2022 and there’s a lot to look forward to but let’s look back on the year.

2021 was a year of challenges that few saw coming, especially with 2020 in the rearview mirror.

It was, without a doubt, a difficult and uncertain time for many Australians. With the end of the year in sight, it’s worth reflecting that despite everything we witnessed, communities became stronger, resilient businesses found new ways to create positive impact, and the journey to a cleaner and more equitable energy future was never more apparent.

From those at home in perpetual lockdowns struggling with energy bills, farmers fighting floods in QLD and regional NSW, and the outcomes of COP26, Glasgow, putting our national/global mission squarely in focus – 2021 was a year to take stock and make our voices heard.

Being a not-for-profit, riding the waves of volatility during 2021 was no small feat, but as an organisation that prides itself on leading by example, AEF continued to deliver its services for communities across Australia and collaborate with government and organisations alike to strive for action on climate. In 2021 AEF achieved:

  • 838 kilowatts* solar installed across 2021, helping over 130 households switch to solar
  • 7 kilotonnes  of carbon saved across 2021, which is equivalent to over 3,400 cars taken off the road
  • 645 home retrofits delivered across 2021, improving home energy efficiency and thermal comfort
  • 933 home energy assessments delivered across 2021
  • 16,873 community conversations across 2021, reaching approximately 43,900 Australians.

We would like to celebrate the tireless efforts of all that contribute in helping to create a brighter future. AEF wish you a restorative and happy holiday period and hope that with the arrival of 2022, our collective resilience will pay itself forward. We thank you for being a part of the journey to an equitable net-zero society.

We look forward to supporting you in 2022.

*Extended lockdowns have been very challenging for AEF’s work delivering home and business energy efficiency improvements and renewable energy installs. Prior to 2020-2021, AEF’s work helped deliver, on average, 2.5 megawatts (2,500 kilowatts) of solar each year.
