Our household energy behaviours are something we can easily modify to respond to the climate emergency, save on our energy bills, and work towards a Zero Carbon Moreland!
Moreland Energy Innovation Lab (MEIL) is an initiative of Moreland City Council and Australian Energy Foundation (AEF).
MEIL is undertaking an In-Home Device (IHD) Pilot Program, that will involve the recruitment of interested households in Moreland.
Interested Moreland residents will be given a free IHD to track their energy usage. Participants will also be provided with information packs that will give tips, tricks, and behavioural cues for our day-today energy practices.
AEF and Moreland City Council hope to gain insight into the benefits and barriers of implementing both IHDs and energy behaviour change ‘tools’ in creating empowered households in Moreland.
Our individual energy saving practices and behaviours can make a BIG impact on climate change, as the amount of household energy consumption accounts for a substantial proportion of total energy consumption worldwide.
An IHD shows household energy use in real time, via a simple smart phone app. This app helps clearly see which appliances may be using excess energy and hence help you reduce your electricity usage.
IHDs are installed by a registered installer, but don’t worry: all of the nitty-gritty will be organised for you by the team at AEF. The installation is quick, free, and requires no modification to your electrical panel.
During the installation appointment the installer will:
